The John Shaw Medal will be awarded annually to an industry champion who has made a lasting contribution to Australia’s transport sector.
Roads Australia is delighted to announce David Stuart-Watt AM as the 2025 John Shaw Medallist. Over his 46-year career, David has been a powerhouse advancing Australia’s transport interests locally and overseas, particularly during his time as President of RA.
Throughout his extensive career, he has worked across the planning, design, delivery, management, and operation of infrastructure in Australia and the UK, becoming one of the most recognised and respected transport leaders.
David’s significant impact on the transport industry throughout his career has been characterised by a strong focus on governance and leadership, spearheading Roads Australia’s position as a key convener of government and industry.
David has been a champion of connecting local industry with global peers, leading the two-way exchange of ideas through his leadership of international study tours including co-hosting Australian and New Zealand delegates at multiple PIARC World Congresses.
David is an advocate for strong mentorship, having established the prestigious Roads Australia Fellowship Program during his tenure as President. His enduring legacy at Roads Australia, and WSP in Australia, illustrate his devotion to the industry and his role as a Champion.
